Very important note - chapter 1 science test - moved to Monday Sept. 21
We needed a little more time to solidify some of the new concepts from this first chapter.
After the test, we will be moving on to a chapter on heredity. We will be talking about how traits are passed from parents to children and why certain traits are more common than others.
Daily work is looking great. Students are also developing good work habits during lab activities.
The 6th graders are midway through a neat introductory poetry unit. We've been learning about basic poetic devices, such as couplets, stanzas, rhyming patterns, meter, and alliteration, along with simply exploring the differences between poetry and prose. When we finish this unit next week, we will explore the concept of onomatopoeia and write some "sounds" poetry. Look for students' poetry in the hallway in a few weeks.
We have finished our review of map skills and learning the key factors influencing the development of civilizations. Our first civilization is the Sumerians. We will learn about ziggurats, city-states and Hammurabi's code. The test for chapter 3 will be this Friday, Sept. 11. Students will receive a study guide on Wednesday and will have time to fill it out in class on Thursday.
Please be sure to call any time there are questions.
Just a reminder that our Christian team-building field trip is tomorrow. Please have your child at school no later than 8:05, armed with a jacket, water bottle, cold lunch, and beverage. Sunscreen and bug repellent are recommended. Our expected return time is 3:15. Look for pictures of this fun excursion by Friday!
