We use them every day, fractions and decimals, that is. The sixth graders are becoming very proficient at switching from one to another. In a few chapters we'll throw percents into the mix. They will be up to it! Keep practicing with the flash cards. After Thanksgiving the daily quizzes will change to weekly quizzes.
Students are currently building a solar-heated home for the competition this Friday. Hopefully they will be able to incorporate some of their knowledge of heat into the building of the home.
Almost every class day has involved some demonstration or experiment to help us understand the concepts being studied.
The study of heat energy will continue through the end of the month.
The Greeks continue to be the focus of attention in World History. Posters about a Greek god or goddess are currently being made. We will also learn about Greek philosophers and scientists. All of this will then be tied to people, ideas, and practices are still with us today. In the end, we should be able to see a good number of Greek influences alive and well in our society.
Thanks for the great response to parent teacher conferences. It was a joy to visit with so many of you.
The 6th graders are midway through a neat introductory poetry unit. We've been learning about basic poetic devices, such as couplets, stanzas, rhyming patterns, meter, and alliteration, along with simply exploring the differences between poetry and prose. When we finish this unit next week, we will explore the concept of onomatopoeia and write some "sounds" poetry. Look for students' poetry in the hallway in a few weeks.
Just a reminder that our Christian team-building field trip is tomorrow. Please have your child at school no later than 8:05, armed with a jacket, water bottle, cold lunch, and beverage. Sunscreen and bug repellent are recommended. Our expected return time is 3:15. Look for pictures of this fun excursion by Friday!
Announcing Middle School - The Grace Way! We are looking forward to meeting and getting to know all of you 6th graders and your parents! A fun, exciting year is upon us, so get ready!
